Abstract

In a process for improving the resistance to creasing of a textile fabric by treating it with a solution of a water-soluble, crystalloidal precondensate of a resin, e.g. of urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde, and subsequently baking the fabric to insolubilize the resin, the dimensional stability of the fabric is also improved by impregnating it, prior to treatment with the precondensate, with a solution or suspension of a protein, other than glue or gelatine, or starch, and then drying, no superatmospheric pressure or mechanical-finish effect being applied to the fabric prior to or during the baking step. The solution or suspension of the protein, e.g. albumen, casein or groundnut protein, or of starch may also contain glucose or dextrine, and a softening or lubricating agent, e.g. soap or an oil. The process is applicable to fabrics of linen, wool, hair, hemp, jute, ramie, cotton or rayon or mixtures thereof. Specification 698,244 is referred to.
