Abstract

In a process for improving the resistance to creasing of a textile fabric by treating it with a solution of a water-soluble, crystalloidal precondensate of a resin, e.g. of urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde, and subsequently baking the fabric to insolubilize the resin, the dimensional stability of the fabric is also improved by impregnating it, prior to treatment with the precondensate, with a solution of glue or gelatine which has been rendered neutral, and then drying, no superatmospheric pressure or mechanical-finish effect being applied to the fabric prior to or during the baking step. The solution of glue or gelatine may also contain another protein, e.g. albumen, casein or groundnut protein, a carbohydrate, e.g. starch or glucose or a softening or lubricating agent, e.g. soap or an oil. The process is applicable to fabrics of linen, wool, hair, hemp, jute, ramie, cotton or rayon or mixtures thereof. Specification 698,245 is referred to.
