Abstract
697,996. Rotary engines. PLESSEY CO.,. Ltd. March 25, 1952 [April 19, 1951], No. 9140/51. Class 110(ii) An air motor 5 is supplied with compressed air by way of control valves 6 and electro-mechanical selector valves 4 which enables the motor to operate in either direction according to which selector valve is actuated. The valves 6.are moved by the motor through cams 7 and push-rods 8,'to open one of alternate paths to exhaust. A spring- loaded brake 16 may be provided for stopping the motor a clutch-plate 17. being driven by:the motor shaft. To release the brake, compressed air is admitted through one of the by-passes 18 or 18a into cylinder 19 at the same time as compressed air-is led to drive the motor. Compressed air passes an inlet valve 1 and into a duct 2 or 3 dependent upon which solenoid-operated valve 4 is opened by a switch 4a, the air flowing through the open valve 6, to drive the motor. The motor is driven through a number of revolutions, the valve 6 then closing by means of the cam 7 and rod 8. The exhaust from the motor passes to one of the outlets 9 when the appropriate valve 10 or 10a is opened by air pressure the other being closed by air pressure. As shown a passage 11a is open to the pressure supply, the air in a cylinder 12 lifting the valve 10, the other passage 11 being open to the exhaust. Constrictions 13 reduces the rate of closing of the valves. Adjustable needle valves 14 are provided in the air supply ducts 2, 3.
