Abstract

697,707. Actuation of switches. AMERICAN STEEL FOUNDRIES. Oct. 23, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 24775/51. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XIX] A switch 30 is actuated by a fluid-pressure responsive device comprising a spiral spring 22 which has its inner surface sealed by resilient material flowable under pressure and sealing members 10, 18 connected at opposite ends to form a closed chamber with a passage 13 for the application of pressure fluid. The lower sealing member 10 is fixed in a frame member 6 and the upper sealing member 18 is rotatable and has an upwardly-extending portion 24 which operates the switchactuating member 28 as the spring 22 uncoils on the application of pressure to the device. The resilient material may be a rubber tube 14 with its ends fitted within annular flanges 12, 16 of the members 10, 18, the spring 22 being secured to the flanges by hose clamps 41. Alternatively, the spring 22 and the sealing members 10, 18 may be moulded into rubber to form a unitary assembly. A thrust race 20 is provided between the member 18 and a frame member 4.
