Abstract
697,012. Transformers. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 29, 1951 [June 20, 1950], No. 15341/50. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group XXXVII] A container adapted to contain electrical apparatus, such as a transformer, and to be filled with an electrically-insulating liquid comprises, on the upper surface 13 of the container 10, a dome 19 in which gases generated within the container can accumulate, an expansion chamber 12 being adapted to be partly filled with the electrically insulating liquid and a conduit 20 communicating with the uppermost part of the dome 19 and extending into the expansion chamber to approximately the geometric centre thereof. The top surface 13 of the container may be curved so as to direct any gas generated therein into the dome 19 whence it passes into the expansion chamber 12. Thus, should the assembly become tilted during transit or installation the possibility of gas passing back along the conduit 20 to the container 10 and becoming trapped between parts of the apparatus is greatly reduced. In a modification a hollow spherical baffle having a plurality of minute holes therein is placed around the opening 22 of the conduit.
