Abstract
696,874. Sausages. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. June 13, 1952 [June 25, 1951], No. 14948/52. Class 28 (ii). A length of sausage 33 in travelling 'on the edge of a rotated plate 3 is formed into linked sausages by pairs of cam actuated jaws 27, 28 which pinch and hold the tube at spaced points while co-operating pairs of roughened plates 36, 37 moved in opposite directions engage and rotate the sausage to twist it at the pinch points. The pinching jaws 27, 28, Fig. 3, are pulled together by a spring 34 when permitted to do so by a fixed cam surface 31 on a disc 32 engaging a roller 30 at the lower end of a lever 17a. The movement of the jaws 27, 28 is equalized by sector gears 24, 25. The degree of pinch is set by adjustable screws 71. The twisting plates 36, 37, Fig. 4, are coupled together to move up and down by rack and pinion 44 through a fixed cam groove 40, the cam follower 39 contacting this groove during the rotation of the mechanism as mounted on the rotated plate 3. When the pinching jaws are opened again by the cam surface 31 the twisting plates. 37 are also spaced apart by a rocking cam 58, 59, Fig. 4, operated from links 63, 66 coupled to one lever 7a of the pinching mechanism. The linked sausages are wound up on a drum 70 or may be passed into baking ovens. Specification 696,864 is referred to.
