Abstract

696,706. Creels &c. SYNCO MACHINE CO. March 21. 1951 [Jan. 9, 1951], No. 6768/51. Class 120(ii) [Also in Group XXV] A cradle for supporting a bobbin in a winding or unwinding machine comprises a three-jaw chuck arranged to grip each flange of the bobbin each chuck being mounted upon bearings and one jaw in each chuck being adapted for movement to permit the insertion of the bobbin and to grip the flange thereof. Each chuck comprises a member 16 mounted for rotation within bearings 14 which carries the fixed jaws 17, 18 and the movable jaw 19. The movable jaw comprises an L-shaped member 29 having a V groove 40 for gripping the flange, attached by a screw 28 to a pivot 26 carried by the member 16. A friction strap 30 may be provided to retard the rotation of the bobbin. Instead of having one movable and two fixed jaws, each chuck may comprise several movable jaws.
