Abstract

818,546. Winding yarns. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. May 16, 1956, No. 15307/56. Class 120(2) Yarn is wound on a package rotated by the application of force to the package surface, the package axis being moved in a rectilinear path perpendicular to the original position of the package axis and remaining parallel to that original position, and the yarn being traversed parallel to the package axis by means maintained at a separation from the package surface which is small compared with the diameter of the package core. A grooved roll 3 kept out of oontact with a package 18 traverses yarn 31 on to the package 18 driven by a roll 6. The package spindle 17 is supported in an arm 16 mounted on a carriage 12 arranged to slide on rods 11 supported by the frame 1. A weight 25 attached to the carriage 12 by a card 24 passing over a pulley 22 on a boss 21 fixed to the frame 1 between vertical supports 2, holds the package 18 in contact with the driving roll 6, but separate from the traverse roll 3. A catch 14, 15 is provided to hold the carriage in the forward position for doffing the package 18. The arm 16 has a fixed handle 27 co-operating with a movable brake handle 28 to stop rotation of the package for doffing. Specification 674,218 is referred to.
