Abstract
696,344. Valves, preventing leakage from. PETERS, M. F. Sept. 24, 1951 1 [Nov. 15, 1950], No. 22257/51. Class 135 Leakage past the stem 3 of a valve 10 is prevented by a collar 9, which cooperates with a seat 7, and a bellows 1 of which the ends are secured, respectively, to the stem 3 and to the casing of the valve. A packing gland 2 is also provided for the stem. In a modification, the collar 9 is replaced by a cup-shaped member to which the bottom edge of the bellows is attached and of which the upper rim can seat against the partition 8. In another embodiment, the bellows extends upwards from the partition 8 and the collar 4 can seat on the upturned edge of the opening in the partition, and drain holes are provided to allow escape of trapped fluid from both sides of the bellows.
