Abstract
695,357. Reservoir pens. COMPANIA URUGUAYA DE FOMENTO INDUSTRIAL SOC. ANON. Aug. 1, 1950. [Aug. 10, 1949] No. 20762/49. Class 146 (iii). In a ball-point pen there are at least two conduits which unite and lead to the feed duct, one conduit being an ink reservoir of capillary size which is vented to atmosphere, or open to a source of air or other gas under slight pressure, and another which is a refilling conduit connected, or adapted to be connected, to a closed ink-supply container. As shown, the ball 1 is mounted in a tip 2 having a restricted feed channel 3 communicating with a duct 4 in which is a capillary device 5 comprising a plug member provided with capillary ducts around its periphery, and having the properties described in Specification 650,754. The tip 2 is fitted into a casing portion 6 which is secured by screw-thread means to a casing portion 7. The ink reservoir consists of a capillary bore 10 in a tubular member 8 in which is also a further bore 9. The forward end of the member 8 fits within the portion 6 so that the two bores 9, 10 communicate at a point adjacent the device 5. The rear end of the member 8 is recessed to receive a member 12 having a neck portion 13 in which is a duct'9a communicating with the duct 9. A second duct 11 in the member 12 vents the reservoir 10 to atmosphere. An ink-container 14, comprising a collapsible metal member, is connected to the neck 13 by a screw-threaded sleeve 15, whereby ink may be forced out of the container 14 along the ducts 9a, 9 to the rear of the capillary device 5, and then along the reservoir bore 10. When the reservoir is charged with ink, the container 14 may be removed, and the duct 9a sealed by a cap. The duct 11 may communicate with a chamber, bag &c. containing air or gas at a pressure slightly above atmospheric. Specifications 564,172, 573,747 and 609,817 also are referred to.
