Abstract

695,014. Hot gas engines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Jan. 24, 1950 [Jan. 27, 1949], No. 1854/50. Class 7 (i). Associated hot and cold spaces are arranged in two different cylinders in communication with each other through a heater a regenerator and a cooler and the heater and cooler comprise tubes for the working medium and the heater regenerator and cooler are arranged immediately after one another and in line with one another the heater and cooler tubes being arranged in one or more than one coaxial circular series with their axes parallel and the heater tubes enclosing a combustion space for the engine. As shown the engine comprises cylinders 80, 81 with their centre lines at right-angles to one another a displacer 82 and piston 83 are associated with a common crank on a crankshaft 84. A hot space 85 communicates with a cold space 86 by way of a heater 89 regenerator 90 and cooler 91 which are integral with one another. The heater and cooler each comprise tubes arranged in circular series with their axes parallel. A combustion space 92 is formed within the heater tubes. The space within the housing 96 contains cooling water supplied through an inlet 97. A refractory member 95 is mounted within the regenerator, The heater, regenerator and cooler may be assembled together so as to form a single unit adapted to be fitted on the engine cylinders by transfer passages.
