Abstract

694,856. Refrigerating. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Dec. 16, 1949 [Dec. 20, 1948], No. 32347/49. Class 29 [Also in Group XXVII] In a refrigerating engine or heat pump, working on the reversed hot gas engine cycle comprising two working spaces the volumes of which are varied with relative phase difference, the wall of at least one of the spaces is shaped in the form of a bellows mechanically connected to a driving mechanism and the exchange of thermal energy takes place through the wall of the bellows. The Figure shows a refrigerating engine comprising bellows 30, 31 which communicate with one another through a conduit 34 including a regenerator 35. The bellows are connected in known manner through the connecting rods shown to a common crank shaft with cranks having a phase difference of for example 90 degrees. A space 32 about the bellows 30 serves as a refrigerator space while a cooling medium which enters at A and leaves at B serves to withdraw thermal energy from the medium in the bellows 31. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to an engine in which two sets of bellows are in line with one another adjacent terminal walls being secured one to each side of a partition having heat insulating properties. The driving gear is connected to the partition. In an engine in which at least 3 cycles are performed the bellows are arranged in pairs in line with one another the terminal walls of each of these pairs of bellows remote from one another being connected to the driving gear and adjacent terminal walls having provided between them a channel system through which each space bounded by a set of bellows of one system communicates with a space of another system. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
