Abstract
694,785. Electromagnetic relays; protective cutout arrangements. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 17, 1951 [May 31, 1950], No. 13642/50. Class 38 (v) An impedance relay comprises a movable element 30 carrying two coils 33, 34 energised in accordance with the current and voltage of the "impedance circuit", and acting in opposition to each other in a permanent magnetic field, change of impedance, e.g. owing to a fault causing the element 30 to move and actuate contacts. In the form shown the coils 33 and 34 each move in a radial field between the poles of two pot magnets magnetized by a central member 37. In a modification Fig. 1 (not shown) the two coils lie adjacent each other and there is only one pot magnet. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the coil-carrying member is pivoted instead of moving longitudinally. The invention is shown applied to a protective system in which the voltage and current coils are supplied from transformers through fullwave rectifiers, Fig. 2 (not shown).
