Abstract

Wool, silk, nylon, leather and other nitrogen-containing fibres are dyed from an acid dyebath with a cobalt or chromium compound in which each atom of metal is bound in complex union with one molecule each of two different o,o1-dioxy monoazo dyes or with one molecule of an o,o1-dioxy monoazo dye and one molecule of an o-oxy-o1-aminoazo dye, one of which dyestuffs is free from solubilizing groups and the other of which contains as the sole solubilizing group a sulphonamide group. An acid dyebath of pH 3.0 to 6.5 is preferably used. In examples: (1) wool is dyed from an acid bath with a dyestuff formed of one molecule of 2-amino-1-oxybenzene - 4 - sulphonamide - --> 2 - oxynaphthalene and one molecule of 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene - --> 2-oxynaphthalene combined with one atom of chromium; (2) nylon is dyed with the dyestuff of (1); and (3) chrome leather is dyed with the cobalt complex obtained from 1 molecule of 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-sulphonamide - --> 2-oxynaphthalene, one molecule of 4-chloro - 2 - amino - 1 - oxybenzene - --> 5,8-di-chloro-1-oxynaphthalene and one atom of cobalt.
