The legs of a walking toy rotate independently about divergent axes and are urged by spring means into alignment. A body 10 of a doll has sockets 25, with flat inner walls 26, into which extend the upper ends of legs 11, 12. Each leg carries a flange 27 extending coaxially within socket 25. A tubular axle 28, whose head 32 is embedded in the leg, extends from the centre of flange 27 and a sleeve member 29, whose head is embedded in wall 26, extends outwardly to journal axle 28. A helical coil spring 40 has its ends 41, 42 engaged respectively in heads 32, 34 so that the legs are biased towards the standing position. Stops 43, 44 on the leg and body respectively limit relative movement. A split keeper 50, 51 engages corresponding grooves 52, 53 in axle 28 and member 29 respectively and is urged outwardly by leaf spring 54, Fig. 5. During assembly a floating ring 55 of the same diameter as sleeve 29 holds splitring 50, 51 and spring 54 in groove 52. The leg is pushed on and member 29 slides over axle 28 and pushes ring 55 along to the outer end of the axle leaving ring 50, 51 engaging grooves 52, 53. As shown in Fig. 1, arms 13, 14 and head 15 may be attached by swivelled hooks 16, embedded in the arms and head, through which is passed a strong resilient band 17.
