Abstract

691,087. Lathe details. WARD & CO., Ltd., H. W. Feb. 13, 1952 [March 12, 1951], No. 5881/51. Class 83 (iii). A bar-stock feed mechanism for a hollowspindle lathe comprises the combination of a bracket a, mounted on the rear end of the lathe headstock b and having a horizontal guideway c supporting the forward end d of a feed-tube e, a stock-bar guide plate i being pivotally mounted on the end of the guideway adjacent to the entrance to the spindle. The feed-tube e is swung about its support pivot f to place a new stock-bar m in position for feeding. The bar is guided into line with the lathe spindle by a chamfered edge n on the guide-plate i. The latter may be adjusted in height for different stock diameters by adjusting a stop-screw o and the plate may be moved down against a spring plunger j by a handle p. A range of bar-supporting tubes q may be provided for insertion in the spindle, these being readily replaceable by end collars r, s, the latter having a bell-mouthed entrance to facilitate guidance of the stock-bar into the spindle.
