Abstract
513,393. Steady rests. PITTLER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK AKT.-GES. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 4052. Convention date, March 8, 1938. [Class 83 (iii)] A work steady for bar stock in automatic lathes, arranged between the cutting tools S and the driving spindle 13 comprises a freely rotatable housing sleeve 3 with a female conical portion 6 engaging a male conical portion on a work engaging clamping sleeve 2, spring-urged into engagement with the female portion in such manner that the clamping sleeve is slidable within the housing sleeve in the direction of feed against the action of the spring. The male conical portion is provided with a screwed adjusting collar 4 at its end between which and a shoulder on the female conical part 6, a spiral spring 5 is arranged. The latter part 6 is carried in roller bearings 9 in a housing 11 attached to the front of the machine. When the driving spindle 13 is withdrawn at the end of an operation, prior to feeding a new length of stock, the guide portions grip the stock and prevent its backward movement.
