Abstract
690,979. A.C. generators. LEECE-NEVILLE CO. Aug. 13, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950], No. 19009/51. Class 35. A three-phase alternator comprises a stationary cup-shaped end housing member 15 carrying the stator 17, and a D.C. excited interdigitated. pole rotor 12 mounted on a stationary shaft 14 secured to the stationary housing, the rotor carrying a fan and driving pulley assembly 16 acting as an end cover for the housing. The end wall 18 of the housing 15 has an aperture (not shown) admitting air under the action of the fan blades 40 attached to the rotating cover 16. The shaft 14 is secured by casting into a boss portion 18a of the stationary end housing, and has a rearward extension 14a by which the machine may be mounted. The laminated stator 17 is secured by screws between rings 28, 29 and carries conductors 30 suitably shrouded by insulating sheets 32 to protect them against dust &c. The complementary rotor pole members 43, 44 are secured, together with the fan member 16 carrying the driving pulley 54, by screws 46, the field coil 13 being fed through slip rings engaged by brushes 62, 63.
