Abstract

690,617. Belt fastenings. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TWIGG, N. F. Jan. 1, 1951 [Jan. 12,1950], No. 798/50. Class 80 (i). A belt fastening particularly for conveyer belts comprises a plurality of U-shaped hinge members 1, 2, Fig. 2, adapted to be connected by a flexible hinge pin 9 and to be secured to the ends of the belt by means of pointed rivets 8 driven through the belt and through a plurality of rows of holes 7 in the hinge members. The ends of the rivets are cut off on the opposite side of the hinge member and riveted over. A device for holding the belt end 4a and a row of hinge members 2 is shown in Fig. 4 and comprises clamping members 10, 11 for holding the belt end 4a- and a positioning template 15 with teeth 16 for locating the hinge members 2 in spaced relation along the belt. A rod 22 also serves to locate the hinge members together with a clamping bar 20. Adjustable riveting blocks 24 are provided to support the members 10 and 11 during the driving in and riveting over of the rivets. To break up-the lines of the rivets, alternate hinge members may be connected by spring steel or hinged straps to plates riveted to the belt behind the hinge members.
