Abstract

An insecticidal composition stabilised to prevent it from corroding ferrous metal containers comprises a chlorinated cyclic organic insecticide, an organic solvent, from 3-15 per cent by weight of an oil soluble and preferably water soluble emulsifying agent, and from 0.001 to 1.0 per cent by weight of epichlorohydrin. Specified organic chlorinated insecticides are D.D.T., Toxophane, Rothane D3, Methoxychlor, Lindane, g -benzene hexachloride and Chlordane. The solvents mentioned are white oils, lubricating oils, transformer oils, deodorised kerosene, chlorinated hydrocarbon, acetone and ethers. Suitable emulsifying agents are dodecanol and octadecanol sulphates, or their sulphonated amide and ester derivatives, sulphonated aromatic or alkyl-aryl compounds, esters of fatty acids such as the ricinoleic acid ester of sorbitol, and the condensation products of ethylene oxide with alkylated phenols. Petroleum sulphonates containing 10-20 carbon atoms may be added as anti-foaming agents.
