Abstract
689,778. Shirt collars. TRUBENISED (GT. BRITAIN), Ltd. Sept. 4, 1950 [July 15, 1949], No. 18702/49. Class 141. A method of manufacturing a one-piece multiply collar, preferably of the " fused " type, includes the steps of stitching or creasing the superimposed plies, or creasing at least one ply to determine a substantial portion of the final marginal contour of the collar and of applying foldline determining means to one of the plies, a device being used to locate it relatively to the stitch or crease line. As shown in Fig. 2, the plies of the collar 3 are stitched at 4 and drawn over a template 5 whose contours correspond with those of the finished collar. The template 5 may be pivotally mounted in a heated press, Fig. 3, having a tape applicator 12 and a movable upper member 10 with resilient padding 11. When the press is closed the foldline defining tape adheres to the lining ply. A tape applicator, Fig. 4, comprises a metal bar 6 having an anvil 7, on which the tape rests, bordered on each side by an undercut channel 8. This applicator may be incorporated into a structure comprising a metal plate having upstanding edge portions 14 to crease the edges of the plies. If it is desired to crease the entire outline of the collar, means are provided to withdraw the template before pressure is applied. The tape applicator or die 12, Fig. 7, rests on a base 15 having heating strips 16, below which there is a slider 18. The template 19 is mounted at the outer end of the slider 18 in a plane above the creasing edge of. the die and in use is slid diagonally to a position above it in which pins 22 engage lugs 21 on the die. The template is then lowered and the collar is retained in position by pins 20 when the template is withdrawn. In an alternative arrangement, the collar plies may be superimposed in a frame having locating holes and stitched or creased along its edges by means having dowel pins co-operating with the holes. The foldline forming tape is applied in a separate operation by means having similar dowel pins. A construction of tape having an adhesive zone and a non-adhesive zone is described. Specification 689,786 is referred to.
