Abstract
689,690. Gas cleaners. MODE, W. F. Nov. 22, 1950 [Dec. 2, 1949; May 8, 1950], Nos. 30974/49 and 11349/50. Class 8 (ii). In a gas cleaner comprising a casing 1 Fig. 1 housing a plurality of parallel baffles 4 in the path of the gas stream so as to cause changes in direction thereof, the baffles 4 are fixed at one end to the rear of the casing and extend to the front where they are supported from the casing 1 by means e.g., a bearer strip 6 Fig. 4 passing through slots in tongues 4a, and are cleaned by a scraper 10 embracing each of them and which is moved relatively to the baffles e.g., by tubes 13 secured to the scraper 10 and passing through apertures in casing tongues 15 so as to discharge removed dirt into a tray 9. The baffles which may be coated with oil comprise corrugated plates or may be formed of bars, rod or strips which may be bent or curved. In operation dirt-laden gas entering the open side of the hood 2 passes upwardly between the baffles 4 and is exhausted through the open side of a hood 3. The scraper 10 is actuated by a handle 17 between the tubes 13 which are guided by rods 14 secured to the rear wall of the casing 1.
