Abstract

688,699. Jointing by stamping. ROBERTS, S. F. March 27, 1951 [March 24, 1950], No. 7450/50. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXVIII] A crimping device for fastening hose ends to couplings comprises jaws 2 and 7 having arcuate recesses, the jaw 2 being carried by a base 1 and the jaw 7 being pivoted at its one side to one of the limbs 4b of the jaw 2 by means of a link 8, the other side of the jaw 7 carrying a swinging link 8a which pivotally carries a lever 11 which co-operates with the jaw 2 to provide at least two degrees of closure of the jaws. The lever 11 has a forked end 10 which extends beyond the link pivot 9 and carries a cross-pin 12 which engages in one or other of notches 5 and 6 in the limb 4a of the jaw 2. The coupling neck b, hose end d and ductile sleeve c are placed between the jaws and two degrees of pressure are used in the crimping operation by inserting the lever 11 first in the notch 5 and then in the notch 6.
