Abstract
A process for the wet treatment of artificial thread comprises treating the thread with liquid as it is advanced in spiral form by a pair of co-operating interinclined, subdivided upper and lower rolls, the lower roll having a surface of such a shape, e.g. by longitudinal fluting, that a thread ascending from the lower roll carries with it only one-quarter to one-third of the quantity of treating liquid which the thread carried with it as it ran on to the lower roll. The fluted surface, which may extend for only a part of the periphery of the lower roll, has salient portions of a profile which converges outwardly at an acute angle, and may be generally of triangular form in cross-section with straight, convex or concave side edges. Alternatively, the profile may be of truncated triangular form.
