Abstract

687,691. Assembling force fits. BJORKLUND, G. E. Jan. 24, 1951 [Feb. 2, 1950], No. 1833/51. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] A friction connection device comprises a ring-shaped element of ductile deformable sheet material for insertion in an annular space between the parts being brought into engagement with one another, provided with portions in the shapes of corrugations &c. and dimensioned so that the said portions are deformed when the element is inserted in the annular space. The deformable element may be in the form of a corrugated ring 3, Fig. 1, a ring 6 with pressed-out projections 7, Fig. 3, a ring 8 with corrugations parallel to the edges, Fig. 5, or an element with lugs 11, Figs. 6-8, which may be curved or flat as at 15 and 16, respectively. The invention permits of increased tolerances in the parts to be connected, allowing, for example, ball bearings to be mounted in turned, drilled or pressed holes, or on rods &c. machined to equivalent accuracy. The invention is also stated to be primarily applicable to the mounting of rods and axles in cylindrical holes.
