685,442. Metal frameworks. STIFT, W. A. L. Sept. 5, 1947 [June 2, 1942], No. 24495/47. Class 20(ii) A framework is constructed of metal tubes having ends 2 U-shaped in cross-section normal to the tube axis thus providing two parallel ears 3 to be connected to a tie plate 7, the crosssectional area at this end being substantially greater than at any normal cross-section of the tube wall and the base of the U being substantially thicker than the ears. To this end the tubes are made with solid ends or provided with a metal filler as in Fig. 3 (not shown). A second tie plate 5 may be connected to the ears by angle irons 6.
