685,427. Control levers for cycle brakes. BURGESS, G. N. June 7, 1951, No. 13551/51. Class 136 (i) A hand brake for cycles comprises a bracket 1 of box-like section fixed to a handle bar from which it projects outwardly to provide a supporting surface for the rider's hand, a threaded sleeve 11 passing freely through the bracket and attached to the outer casing 13 of a bowden cable, a nut 5 in threaded engagement with the sleeve 11 and rotatable in a recess in the bracket from which it projects slightly to allow for actuation and a hand lever 8 pivoted to the bracket at 9 and attached to the inner wire 14 of the bowden cable. The sleeve 11 is restrained against rotation by a flat in the bracket 1 engaging a flat on the sleeve. Recesses 16 are formed in the bracket 1 to accommodate the side wings 8<SP>1</SP> of the lever 8. The bracket is secured to the handle bar by a collar 19 which surrounds the handle bar and projects into a recess in the bracket. The collar carries a threaded nut 20 engaged by a screw 21. The upper part of the bracket is curved convexly in a transverse direction and concavely in the longitudinal direction.
