Abstract
683,575. Ignition magnetos. DIXONBATE, B. Feb. 9, 1951 [Oct. 27, 1950; Jan. 10, 1951], Nos. 26233/50 and 696/51. Class 35. A magneto has a 3-limbed stator with a coil e mounted in the central limb c and a rotor f carrying a permanent magnet insert j arranged to bridge two adjacent limb ends of the stator so as to cause rapid reversal of flux in the limb c as the rotor passes the limbs. The insert j has pole-pieces k and the space between the latter being filled with non-magnetic material m. The magnet and pole-pieces k may be cast in a pressure-casting of a zinc-base alloy as shown in Fig. 2. A crank-case n encloses the rotor f and the stator is outside the crank-case with the limbs projecting through a moulding o of non-magnetic and non-conducting material.
