683,494. Locomotive undercarriages. GENERAL STEEL CASTINGS CORPORATION. June 30, 1960, No. 16416/50. Class 103 (vi). A framing for the end unit of an articulated locomotive comprises an elongated central member 8 which has a centre plate member 20 formed integrally with it and the live steam for the cylinders is conveyed through pipes 47, 48 to a Y- piece connecting the steam inlets 30. Exhaust steam is conveyed through pipes 31 cast integrally with the backbone 8, detachable pipes 40, 41 and 42 and conduit 21 to a pipe 39 universally jointed at its ends, and thence to the exhaust steam stack 7a. The centre plate structure (Fig. 6) comprises an inverted frustoconical cast metal section 20 fitted with a renewable liner 35 having a hemi-spherical cavity to receive the centre plate 36. The passage 21 is cast integrally with this centre plate structure. Other centre plate arrange. ments are shown.
