Abstract

683,277. Glass-making. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Sept. 4,1951, No. 20887/51. Class 56. A glass stirrer and feeder comprises a generally cylindrical housing 12, 13, 14 having a bottom outlet in its axial centre substantially smaller than the housing diameter, a continuously rotatable and axially reciprocable shaft 15 within and coaxial with the housing, stirrer elements 16, 17, which may be generally similar to those described in Specification 639,772, radially projecting from the shaft, and an additional member 18 on the shaft below the stirrer elements of substantially greater diameter than the shaft, the housing adjoining the outlet being so shaped that this member, in co-operation therewith and with the stirring elements, controls the flow of glass through the outlet. Various forms of the additional members 18 are described.
