Abstract

1,037,665. Mixing apparatus. UNILEVER Ltd. Oct. 1, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33531/62. Heading B1C. Apparatus for mixing powders or liquids has a conical vessel 1 (which may have a heating jacket) and a coaxial stirrer 5 made up of a conical spiral plate in the form of a screw. As shown, it has a continuously increasing pitch and the width of the plate increases with the diameter of the cone, the width and pitch being such that the ratio between the area of a turn of the spiral and the mean area of the vessel is 1 : 2. The stirrer may be split into one or more strips, (see Fig. 5, not shown). A preferred form has a stirrer of 3 turns and a cone angle of 30-50 degrees. The stirrer may be cut from a single sheet of material (see Fig. 3, not shown). The apparatus may be used for batch or continuous operation and discharge may be controlled by a slide or stop cock 6.
