Abstract

683,171. Rotary brushes. HOOVER, Ltd. Oct. 25, 1950 [Nov. 10, 1949], No. 25956/50. Class 19. [Also in Group XXVIII] A rotary agitator, for a suction cleaner, having bearings 21 at its ends has a row of brush bristles 12 extending along the agitator including that part of its length containing the bearings, and the bristles level with the bearings are shorter and have their inner ends spaced at a greater radial distance from the axis of the agitator than the bristles elsewhere. The agitator has two rows of bristles, each row secured in a channel shaped brush holder 13, mounted in a longitudinal slot in the agitator, which is stepped at 24 to provide clearance for the bearing. In another embodiment the inner surface of the brush holder is inclined outwardly relative to the agitator axis.
