Abstract
In a coating machine for coating ice-cream blocks with chocolate in which laterally spaced conveyer bands carry blocks which are to be coated both on upper and lower sides by a coating drum which contacts the lower sides and from the enlarged ends of which a scraper <PICT:0683028/III/1> <PICT:0683028/III/2> carries material to the upper surfaces, the central part of the scraper has at least one slot extending transversely of the conveyer the effective opening of which is controlled by a slidable shutter plate. Referring to the drawings, blocks are fed by conveyer 6 to conveyer chains 19 and thence over drum 14 where they are coated on their undersides by a surge of liquid carried up on the drum from container 13 and held between it and scraper 47 and on their upper surfaces and sides by a rain of liquid scraped off the sides of the drum by limbs 34a and falling through slots 40 whose effective area is controlled by adjustment of shutter plate 41 through nut 43 and screw 44.
