Abstract

682,708. Ball mills. SLEGTEN, J. A. A. P. May 11, 1950 [May 11, 1949], No. 11791/50. Class 59 A ball or like mill has a lining comprising a succession of rings of truncated conical form disposed with their wider section towards the direction from which the material to be ground arrives and of such conicity as to produce a regular and permanent sizing of the grinding media, said liner rings being built up by adjacently disposed liner plates 1, 2, the lining being characterized by the provision between the adjacent edges of the liner plates of pockets 6, which are preferably parallel to the mill axis, into which the material to be ground enters when they are in the lower part of the mill and from which the material drops in thin streams through the upper part of the mill, when, during the continued rotation of the mill, the pockets pass through the upper part of the mill. The pockets 6 are defined by the edges of the adjacent liner plates 1, 2 and protecting plates 7 on the mill body. The pockets may be extended underneath the liner plates. Fig. 3, by lateral openings 9. A grid, of a mesh to reject the grinding elements, may cover the pocket openings. Adjacent liner plates may havc toothed edges. Instead of being formed between the edges of adjacent liner plates, the pockets may be disposd behind the medial portions of the liner plates and open through holes therein to the grinding chamber.
