Abstract

682,553. Pawl and ratchet for pulley hoist. ZANGL, K. June 29, 1950. [June 29, 1949] No. 16292/50. Class 78 (v). In a cable hoist in which a hand operated rope 15 carrying the load passes over pulley 1, movement of the pulley is governed by pawl 5 pivoted to weighted lever 7, the movement of said lever 7 preferably being limited by stop 11 passing through slot 10 in said lever, and the movement of pawl 5 being controlled by slide 12 pivoted thereto and embracing boss 9 of the pulley. Fig. 1 shows pawl 5 idling over ratchet 4 formed on the pulley as the rope moves to the left. Fig. 2 shows the rope pulled to the right, the engagement of ratchet 4 with pawl 5 causing lever 7 to rise so that tops 11 engages the bottom of slot 10 and secures the pawl so that the pulley is checked against movement, the boss 9 causing slide 12 to move to the right. If the load is removed, and the rope is pulled to the left, lever 7 is free to fall and pawl 5 is disengaged to permit the free movement of the rope. The pulley may have its periphery ribbed and the rope may be guided by rollers 17.
