682,475. Printing-machines. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK AKT. - GES. HEIDELBERG. Aug. 2, 1950 [May 22, 1950], No. 19336/50. Class 100 (ii). In a platen press driven through a variablespeed gear comprising an endless belt passing over a pair of conical half-pulleys, spring-urged towards each other, on the shaft of a motor bodily movable perpendicularly to its shaft to adjust the radius at which the belt engages the half-pulleys, the motor is mounted on a pivoted support providing an arcuate movement manually controlled by an adjusting spindle extending to the operator's normal station. As shown, to adjust the radius at which the belt 9, driving the platen press flywheel 10, engages the halfpulleys 7, 8 on the shaft of the motor 6, the latter on a pair of brackets 4, 5 may be rocked about a shaft 3 by rotation of a spindle 16 whose screw-threaded end 15 engages a threaded hole in an eye bolt 13 pivoted in the bracket 4; the spindle has a hand crank 19, and rings 20 on either side of an eye bolt 17 pivoted in the frame prevent axial movement; nuts 21 serve as limit stops.
