Abstract
682,283. Tumbler switches. PARSONS, Ltd., C. H., and HANDLEY, G. B. Aug. 23,1951 [Aug. 25, 1950], No. 21020/50. Class 38 (v) A two-way, lever-operated switch, suitable for alternating current circuits, comprises a guided bar 30, the ends of which actuate movable contacts 12 which are normally urged into engagement with fixed contacts 24, the lever 18 bearing on the bar 30 so that during the movement of the lever, one set of contacts is separated slowly and the other set rapidly. The bar 30 is guided in a slot 29 in an insulating block 13 mounted on the base 10, and has a cut-away part 20 pressed against a roller 32 on the end of lever 18 by a spring 34. The contacts 12 are carried by insulating members 39 supported on pins passing through the block 13 and are urged upwards by springs 38. On moving the lever from one limit position to the other the spring 34 and one spring 38 initially oppose separation of the corresponding set of contacts, thereby producing a slow break. After passing the central position shown, the spring 34 and the other, spring 38 assist closure of the other set of contacts, which thereby close rapidly. Rubber bushes 42 on the lever 18 engage a surface 40 on the block 13 and abut the walls 41 to define the limit positions. According to the Provisional Specification, the surface 20 of bar 30 has differently-inclined ridges to produce the desired effect.
