Abstract
679,932. Railway-vehicle bogies. KRUPP LOKOMOTIVFABRIK, F. Dec. 7, 1949 [March 24, 1949; May 23, 1949], Nos. 31401/49 and 31402/49. Class 103(vi) A wagon body is supported by undamped bearing springs 55 of the torsion rod type on bogies guided by king pins 56. Each bogie has a frame 57 supported on undamped torsion rod springs 58 from an undercarriage consisting of a light weight frame 47 and wheel sets 48. The weight of the wagon is transmitted via the springs 58 and axle boxes 50 without loading the frame 47 in bending, and the axles 8 are journalled without play in roller bearings. The beams 51 of the frame 47 may have limited relative pivotal movement about the axis 52 so that the wheel sets may follow inequalities in the track. To this end a cross connection 59 is provided which comprises two vertically spaced apart springs so that it may twist elastically and permit vertical movement of 47. The movements of 47, in the direction of travel, and transversely to the track, are shared by the frame 57 which has pins 53 attached to a cross-members 54 of the frame, which pins engage the undercarriage 47 by ball joints 16 and guides 17 fixed by resilient blocks at the mid-points of the beams 51. The side forces acting on the wheels are transferred to the frame 57 both by the cross connection 59 and by transverse bars 18 having heads 33 at their opposed ends which are supported by resilient blocks on bearings 34 which in turn rest by knife edges 35 against a frame depending member 19. The resilient blocks on the guides 17 and bars 18 serve to eliminate or damp high frequency oscillations. The king-pin 56 is connected by a ball joint 20 and a return device with cross-members of the frame 51, the return device consisting of torsion rod springs 21 adapted to press against abutments 22 of the ball joint. In a modification, Figs 1-4 (not shown), the cross connection 4 is attached to a downwardly projecting portion 5 of the frame 1, and the cross connection may be in two pieces symmetrical about the longitudinal plane of the bogie. In a driving bogie the motors 36 are mounted on the frame 57 by links 37, 38 so as not to subject the frame 47 to bending stresses, the motors driving a gear wheel 40 on the axle of a wheel set by a pinion 39. A gear box 41 is mounted on the axle and pivotally hung from the frame, and a flexible clutch is disposed between the pinion 39 and the motor shaft 42. A hollow shaft drive may however be employed. To avoid spring bending in the vertical direction, Fig. 10, leaf springs 27 are attached to the beams 51 and set on edge. The adjoining ends of the springs 27 are fixed to a box frame 29 having an opening 30 for the king-pin 56 and the ball joint 20 which rests against box walls 31 so that forces acting in the direction of travel may be transmitted to 56. In other modifications described and shown, coil &c. springs may be used in place of torsion rod springs.
