Abstract
677,371. Projectiles. ABRAMSON, H. May 31, 1950. [May 31, 1949] No. 13625/50. Class 9 (i). A projectile has a seat 3 tapering towards the nose of the projectile, a peripheral band 1 on the seat for supporting the projectile in the bore of the firearm, a space behind the band to enable the band to move rearwards and thereby expand on firing, and a rearwardly disposed driving or sealing band 2 adapted to prevent the full gas pressure from acting on the band 1. The material of the band 1 is of a material which permits the necessary expansion, and it may be provided with beads or recesses, or it may be transversely waved for this purpose. The band may be made of different materials so chosen that the friction surfaces are suitable from the point of view of friction and guidance, the remainder having the necessary stretching capacity and strength.
