Abstract
677,044. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1950 [Oct. 19, 1949], No. 23568/50. Class 39 (i). [Also in Group XI] A U-shaped discharge lamp is supported by a stiff wire 10 extending between the two limbs of the lamp, and to which is attached a double clamp 17 supporting the ends of the limbs adjacent to the electrodes, and a further clamp 16 supporting the envelope at the bend; this supporting structure may act as a triggering electrode, and may be supplemented by a fine wire 24 wound round the tube and in electrical contact with the clamps. The electrode in-leads 4 and 5 are attached to lead wires 20, 21 which are secured to an insulating disc 6, as is also support wire 10; contact pins under the disc, as at 19, enable the entire unit to be readily plugged into a power source. The lower part of wire 10 and the leads 20, 21 are offset in opposite directions so as to obtain the widest spacing. The lamp described is of the flash-tube type, with a filling of xenon at 300 mm. pressure. A parabolic reflector may also be mounted on the disc 6, as in Fig. 2 (not shown).
