Abstract
676,599. Lathe details. BECHLER, A. Nov. 13, 1950 [Feb. 18, 1950], No. 27682/50. Class 83 (iii). A tool-setting device for lathes and other machine tools comprises a tool slide carried by a bed, two coaxial screws having the same pitch but of opposite hand for setting the slide, one screw pushing and the other pulling and means for indicating the pressure with which the pull screw bears on the bed. The tool slide 3 is carried on the bed 1 and a depending plate 6 secured to the slide, has a screw-threaded aperture coaxial with a smaller threaded aperture in the bed. These threads are of the same pitch, those in the bed being right-handed, and those in the plate left-handed. An exterior hollow screw 7, constituting the push-member, screws into the plate and has one end bearing against the adjacent face of the bed while the other end terminates in a disc 8 with a slot 16 in its periphery. An interior screw 9 passes through the screw 7 to enter the bed and terminates at its outer end in a shoulder 12 and squared end 13 for adjustment. An index disc 10 is loosely supported on this end of screw 9, adjacent the shoulder, and is maintained against plate 6 by a spring 11. A pin 15 carried by the index disc engages the slot 16 in the other disc 8 for rotating the latter and screw 7. A segmental indicating plate 17. is also clamped to the outer end of screw 9 and relative movement between graduations on this plate and a mark 22 on index disc 10 shows the amount of pressure.
