Abstract
675,699. Zoetropes. ENGELKEN, M. A. June 28, 1950 [Aug. 27, 1949], No. 16153/50. Class 97 (i). [Also in Groups XVIII] A composite picture, comprising at least two pictures broken up into intercalated sets of elements, is movably mounted behind an opaque selector plate having openings, which reveal the elements of one picture, each opening being at the focus of an element of a lenticular plate, the whole assembly being illuminated at one side and viewed from the other. The housing 10 shown is divided by a partition 11 with a recessed central portion with an aperture 14 in front of the selector plate 15. The lenticular screen is mounted at 31. If the plate 15 is a line screen the screen elements are horizontal. The picture 38 is mounted close to the selector plate in a frame 29 secured by latches 27 in an aperture in a plate 16 running on rollers 17 retained on the partition 11 by springs 18 engaging studs 20 projecting from the edge of the plate. The bearings for the rollers are eccentric bushes rotatable to adjust the picture towards or away from the plate 15. The picture is reciprocated vertically by an eccentric cam 22 rotated by the motor M through worm gearing and engaging the bottom of the plate 16. The picture may be viewed through the lenticular screen, being illuminated by tubular lamps 30 which are, however, disposed horizontally if the plate 15 is a line screen. A diffusing screen may be disposed at 35 in front of the lenticular screen. Alternatively, a lamp and condenser may direct parallel light on to the lenticular screen and the picture be viewed from the opposite side where a diffusing screen is placed as far from the picture as the lenticular screen. U.S.A. Specifications 1,636,415 and 1,260,682 are referred to.
