Abstract
675,474. Buttons. SUTIN, A. E. Oct. 14, 1949 [Sept. 20, 1948], No. 24546/48. Class 43. In a two-part button wherein the knob 5 of a securing peg 1 is pressed through the fabric 3 and then engaged in a socket 9 in a button head 6, the socket portion of the head is split at one end 10 to form relatively rigid jaws 10a, 10b, and merges at the other end into a comparatively thin, flat button face 7 which is resiliently deformable to allow opening of the jaws when the knob 5 is forced through them. The button head 6 may be made of a resilient plastic material. A hollow neck 8 extends rearwardly from the button face 7, a small aperture 11 being provided in the end 10 of the neck so that a shoulder 13 is formed, the base 12 of the conical head 5 being engaged by the shoulder 13 to prevent separation of the parts. When two buttons are to be applied back to back, use is made of the device shown in Fig. 4, the shaft 16b which does not go through the fabric being made shorter than the other shaft 16a. According to the Provisional Specification a certain amount of rearward taper may be incorporated in the head 5 so that it can be removed from the button head 6.
