[Also in Groups VIII and XXIV] A laminated driving or conveyer belt includes a layer of a polyamide, polyurethane, or like polycondensation resin that has been longitudinally oriented by stretching, the tendency of this layer to split being reduced or eliminated by reinforcing it with transverse threads, which may be the wefts of a woven fabric or may consist of metal wire. The transverse threads may be perpendicular or at an acute angle to the longitudinal direction of the belt. The threads may be secured to the resinous layer by the same or similar resinous material either molten or dissolved in acid such as formic acid. When metal wires are used, they should be pressed into the plastic layer, or embedded between two layers. The threads may be impregnated with a material which increases friction or hygroscopicity or eliminates electrostatic effects ; calcium chloride is specified. As shown, a friction layer a of split leather is united to a tension layer b of polyamide which is reinforced by a woven fabric c of cotton or wool, the three layers being united by a solution of polyamide in formic acid.
