Abstract
674,319. Electrolytic production of gases. LONZA ELEKTRIZITATSWERKE UND CHEMISCHE FABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Nov. 30, 1950 [Sept. 8, 1950], No. 29367/50. Class 41. In the electrolytic production of gases, for example oxygen or chlorine, in multicellular pressure electrolysers with cells provided with diaphragms and interconnected by passages for gas and electrolyte, the gas spaces at the commencement of electrolysis are filled with an inert gas, for example nitrogen, at not less than atmospheric pressure and the current is switched on at such pressure. The inert gas may be introduced at the full working pressure and the current switched on directly at the full working intensity.
