Abstract

673,977. Brush-holders for dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). July 1, 1949, No. 17489/49. Class 35. In order to prevent chattering the brush 6 in a box-type brush-holder has its end remote from commutator 5 with an inclined surface 7 on which a movable brush engaging member 10 is placed which is acted upon by a spring 16. Thus the brush 6 is urged longitudinally against the commutator and also is biased sideways in the recess 2, thus maintaining the brush constantly in surface contact with the trailing wall of the recess. Fig. 2 shows how the legs 12 move in longitudinal grooves 3, 4 formed in transverse sides of the recess 2. A roller 15 mounted in a pin 14 engages aside of the groove 3. Instead of a roller 15 a curved part 24, Fig. 3 (not shown), can be used. In a modification, the brush engaging member is a ball.
