Abstract
290,002. Stone &. Co., Ltd., J., and Honey, A. E. March 12, 1927. Brushes; brush-holders. -A brush for dynamo electric machines &c. comprises several parts formed with inclined faces adapted to engage one another slidably, and means are provided on the brush-holder to cause the brush assemblage closely to fit the holder to avoid canting. In the form shown the brush is in two parts b formed with inclined faces c in contact, and springs f on one of the narrow walls of the socket e force the parts together so that the brush is firmly held between the long walls of the socket. The brush is pressed on the commutator by a pivoted lever k operated by a compression spring m which can act on either side of the pivot pin l to press the lever on the brush (Fig. 1) or to keep it raised (Fig. 3). Pressure is conveyed to the brush portions by a pivoted lever p having antifriction rollers r in contact with each brush portion. In a modification, a lever is employed for each brush part and is disposed at right angles to the longer axis of the brush socket, or a single lever k may be arranged as shown in Fig. 6.
