Abstract

673,460. Variable electric condensers. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1950, No. 30985/50. Class 37. A variable condenser comprises a thin disc 2 of dielectric e.g. ceramic material, having an electrode 9 deposited thereon and supported by a backing plate 3, and a metal rotor 1 having its surface cut away at 7 so that the raised portion forms with the dielectric 2 and electrode 9 a condenser variable by rotation of the rotor. Preferably the rotor is placed between two dielectric discs as in Fig. 1, and the assembly is held together by spring washers 11. The rotor may be knurled at 6 to facilitate rotation. To effect connection to the electrodes 9, a connecting lead 19, Fig. 6, may be fixed to the backing plate 3 and dip down into an aperture. In a modification, the rotor has a knurled insulating rim, and the area of no electrode is completely cut away, Figs. 7-12 (not shown).
