Abstract

The invention comprises dihydroresorcinol carbamates of the formula <FORM:0672971/IV (b)/1> where R1 and R2 are hydrogen or methyl and R3 and R4 are saturated or unsaturated alkyl radicals of 1-5 carbon atoms (same or different), and their preparation from the appropriate dihydroresorcinols and dialkyl carbamyl halides. The dihydroresorcinol is preferably used as its alkali salt, or else an acid-binding agent is added; an inert solvent may be present. Examples show the preparation of the dimethyl and diethyl carbamates of 5 : 5-dimethyl-dihydroresorcinol. Other products referred to are derived from the three dihydroresorcinols and carbamyl halides, where R3 and R4 are methyl, ethyl, n- and iso-propyl, n- and isobutyl, n-amyl and allyl. Dialkyl-carbamyl halides (chlorides and bromides), where the groups are as defined above, are obtained by reacting secondary amines with carbonic dihalides, preferably in a non-reactive solvent. Specified amines are dimethylamine, diethylamine, di-n-propylamine, diallylamine, methylisopropylamine, ethylallylamine, di-n-butylamine, n-butylisobutylamine, methyl-n-butylamine and diamylamine.
