A feed device for an automatic packing machine is of the type in which the articles to be packed are moved forward step by step, the articles being advanced in contact with one another along a first guide 1 on the entrance side and advanced regularly spaced apart along a second guide 2 on the exit side of the device, the guides being placed so that the one directly prolongs and forms a continuation of the other so that the articles to be packed pass from the first guide to the second without any change in the direction of their step-by-step movement. The articles are advanced step-bystep by driving member 5 along flat guides I until in turn they strike stop 15 and fall over step 3 in between projections 14<SP>1</SP> formed on lower guides 2 along which they are again advanced. During their movement along and between guides 1, the articles are conveyed on the flat right-hand portion of said driving member, the articles sliding backwards to the right at the end of the movement under the pressure from stop 15 because the stroke is greater than the article width, whereas during their movement along guides 2 they are conveyed between projections 16 formed on the left-hand portion of the driving member, each movement of the articles being equal to the stroke of the driving member. The driving member describes a rectangular path of which the upward movement is derived from driving rod 7 through parallel linkage 6, 8, 6<SP>1</SP> and the longitudinal movement is derived from driving rod 12 through parallel linkage 11, 6, 8, 6<SP>1</SP>; the connection between links 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> and said member 5 being by pin and slot 9, 10 and 9<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP> respectively. Guide 16 prevents overlapping.
